Turbo Conversion for Fiat FIRE 1.1 - 1.2 - 1.4 (8v–16v) Engines: Guide, Components, and Quote

Fiat FIRE 1.1 - 1.2 -1.4 (8v–16v) Turbo Engine Conversion: Guide, Components, and Quote

For years, we've been receiving numerous requests almost daily for turbo conversions of Fiat/Alfa/Lancia FIRE 1.1, 1.2, and 1.4 engines, both 8V and 16V. In this short guide, we've summarized the experience we've gained from the numerous conversions we receive weekly for these engines. This will help you choose the right products for your needs, reduce unnecessary costs, and achieve reliable results.

Two possible paths

1) Are you self-employed? Use our shop and add and subtract products from your cart to create your own kit and get an instant quote.

If you have the necessary skills, you can purchase the components individually and receive a ProtoXide quote in your cart immediately . Examples of frequently requested parts:

  • Reinforced head gasket and exhaust manifold
  • Turbo exhaust manifold with enlarged throttle body and dedicated downpipe
  • Turbine oil supply and return: where to connect it and what to buy to connect it correctly
  • Intercooler with pipes, brackets and sleeves
  • Additional sensors and wiring
  • Fuel supply adjustments (pump/injectors where necessary)
  • Electronic management of additional or independent control unit (map/control unit, suitable MAP sensor)
  • Other specific details: such as pressure gauges and instruments for measuring temperature and carburetion

2) Would you prefer a complete, dedicated list? Request a quote.

If you don't have all the knowledge for a proper conversion, avoid making the wrong purchase or purchasing incompatible or unnecessary components. We've created a customized quote that includes:

  • Custom parts list for your FIRE engine (8V or 16V)
  • Purchasing suggestions, including for any used parts of specific models to reduce costs
  • In case of purchasing complete kits, we also recommend technical assembly and compatibility notes.
  • Instructions for correct electronic management of supercharging

Important: The estimate is paid , but it becomes free if you decide to complete the work (even in stages). The amount paid for the estimate will be entirely discounted towards the purchase of the recommended components.

Essential Technical Checklist

  • Camshaft essential for these engines, with ProtoXide turbo profile to have a response at low revs that many don't even consider
  • Tips: essential for proper driving
  • Modifications to be made to the engine block, engine breathers, assessment of whether forged pistons and connecting rods are necessary, etc.
  • Software/control unit adjustments consistent with installed hardware

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Buying components that are not compatible with your FIRE motor (8V vs 16V, 1.1 - 1.2 vs 1.4) we know all these motors very well and we are specialists, they are not all the same as many think and for this reason they must be managed correctly to avoid expenses for wrong products
  • Inadequate electronic management and avoid → lean mixtures, knocking, breakages etc.
  • Ignore the routing of the turbine oil delivery lines, returns and crankcase ventilation to prevent the engine from smoking and shortening the piston life.
  • Underestimating small intercoolers or unsuitable turbochargers: low efficiency and high temperatures = poor performance that you won't even notice.

FAQs about turbo conversions for FIRE engines

Does the engine need to be strengthened?

It depends on the power goal and usage. For moderate setups, a good electronic tuning and adequate air cooling may suffice; for higher power outputs, consider reinforced gaskets and dedicated internal components.

What needs to be mapped?

Fuel/advance management, and boost strategy with turbo pressure regulation, must be consistent with wastegate, pop off valve and sensors (MAP) and larger injectors and pump.

Can I use used parts to save money?

Yes, in some cases we select specific used components that offer a good cost/benefit ratio. When you request a quote, we'll indicate which of these components are available for purchase used.

Is this an intervention approved for road use?

Absolutely not. Our products and our instructions are a reference for tuners who use our components in competition. The information provided here is for technical purposes only and for competition use only.

Note: Each engine has different electronics and may have different mileages. If you'd like a "complete" list for your FIRE engine, request a dedicated quote: this will avoid unnecessary expenses and speed up installation.
